Over the Border Bus Tour

THE ECLIPSE HOUSE, CASUARINA

Scott Carpenter, Create Architecture 2018 NSW Country Division Architecture Awards, Commendation

Inserted into an established beachside vernacular that favours an eclectic mix of shapes and materials, The Eclipse House takes a simple form. Timber boxes address east and west facades, split in the middle to create an easily identifiable entry point. The owners’ brief was all about transitioning from hectic Gold Coast workday life to a more casual one that put family first.

ECHO BEACH HOUSE, CASUARINA

Scott Carpenter, Create Architecture 2018 NSW Country Division Architecture Awards, Commendation

Influenced by the modernist architecture of Richard Neutra, who spent most of his life living and working on America’s West Coast, the ground floor is the heart of the home and features entertainment area and master suites. Sleek horizontal lines are enriched by the warmth of timber, which is used on the exterior as cladding, screening elements and internal floors.

New Houses 2018 Award - AIA Country Division

This beachfront home occupies a sloping site that rises to meet the crest of the dune and expansive ocean views. A variety of external spaces can perch the occupants out on the edge to take in the panoramic vista or provide outdoor spaces sheltered from the sun and wind. The simple open plan is wrapped in a palette of robust organic materials including concrete, stone and wood to withstand the harsh coastal environment.
