This new pedestrian and cycle bridge links Home of the Arts (HOTA) and Surfers Paradise via Chevron Island. It spans 130 metres across the Nerang River, connecting to the Thomas Drive retail and restaurant strip.
It is the second completed stage of ARM Architecture’s HOTA masterplan with design development and documentation by Archipelago.
The bridge’s distinctive southern landing over HOTA’s Evandale Lake is wrapped with a striking three-dimensional façade—an artwork titled 40 Million Mornings, created by Warren Langley and Jess Austin, curated by Archipelago. The golden hued folded form represents the suns colour on the Nerang River over the past 40 million mornings. The themes of water and open hands underpin the notion of past, present, future. Warmly lit, the artwork reflects in the lake as a striking evening beacon.
Like HOTA masterplan’s other components, the balustrade and pavement design feature the dynamic, organic cellular motif of the Voronoi.
