Hastings House was a dream that had been planned for some time. Having known the clients for many years and worked on their respective workspaces and their inner city house it was inevitable that this time had allowed the design of the Hastings house to evolve with such freedom.
The aspects of the site with estuary access and proximity to the beach, along with views down the reach insisted the form of the house and its materiality needed to respond. Hastings is a sleepy hollow with a sense of calm, nature and rawness and it is these attributes, coupled with the intended use of the building that delivered an inviting and relaxing space and place to occupy.
The added sensitivity to the local indigenous region and people played a large part of the overall landscape process and how it connected to the site and surrounds further enhancing the overall architecture.
Gold Coast Open House proudly acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our events are held, the Kombumerri and Yugambeh Language Group families of the Gold Coast. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connections to the lands, waters, wildlife and extended communities throughout South East Queensland.
