Gold Coast Open House welcomes the ABC’s Nicole Dyer as 2022 Ambassador

Nicole Dyer Gold Coast Open House Ambassador 2022

ABC Gold Coast broadcaster Nicole Dyer has been announced as the Gold Coast Open House Ambassador for 2022.

Nicole is a well-known member of the local Gold Coast community, having hosted every program at the ABC Gold Coast since joining the station more than 15 years ago following stints in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Townsville. But it was the Gold Coast that won Nicole’s heart as her permanent home.

With the Gold Coast’s unique history, colourful personalities and rapidly changing landscape, Nicole says this presents a unique challenge for architecture and buildings on the Gold Coast.

“The combination of these factors is equally exciting and terrifying. We need to balance the huge responsibility we have for preserving the ‘old Gold Coast’ with the needs of one of the fastest growing cities in Australia.”

Dr Rosemary Kennedy, Chair of Gold Coast Open House 2022, says that Nicole’s combined passion for the Gold Coast and architecture made her the perfect choice for the position of Gold Coast Open House Ambassador for 2022.

“Nicole knows that a city relies on quality architecture to make a place memorable and liveable. With her keen eye and journalistic insight that discerns ‘real from fake’, Nicole is the ideal ambassador for Gold Coast Open House in promoting those buildings and places that will stand the test of time.”

Naming the HOTA outside amphitheatre and HOTA art gallery as her favourite local architectural success, Nicole says she is looking forward to promoting the many hidden gems and architectural feats that are usually off limits to the general public in a bid to better understand how we can strike the balance between progress, ingenuity, and our past.

You can discover local Gold Coast architecture through free public tours and more during the Gold Coast Open House event weekend on 15-16 October 2022. A number of fringe events will also be taking place at HOTA from 4 October.  Sign up to our newsletter below to be first to know when the official program is released, or sign up to volunteer here.
