The Warehouses: A Civic-Minded Transformation in Currumbin
Located in the heart of a Currumbin industrial estate, The Warehouses reimagines the traditional light industrial building with a focus on community and longevity. This innovative precinct was born from the unification of five existing structures, creating a cohesive space defined by a new human-centric internal street that enhances accessibility and engagement.
Before its transformation, the building served as a rescue and relief distribution centre during the 2022 Northern Rivers Flood, highlighting its crucial role within the community. Inspired by this experience, the client’s vision for The Warehouses was to create a socially-conscious commercial space that could evolve with the needs of the community. The project asked the vital question: "How can a commercial building adapt to evolving community needs?"
The design prioritizes durability, thermal comfort, and flood resilience, ensuring that the precinct can withstand future adverse weather events while remaining low-maintenance and functional. The result is a robust and versatile space, built not just for business, but for the future needs of the broader community.
