The Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club is home to the local Surf Life Saving community - patrol members, nippers and senior competitors, as well as the club’s supporters who enjoy the 600 seat restaurant, café, bar and gaming lounge along a prime Gold Coast beach frontage.
Working with the team from Arkhefield, the club realised its brief for bold and visionary architecture while maintaining references to its functional use as a local Surf Life Saving Club.
Key to the design was a generous, civic-scaled outdoor room, an extension of the public realm of the adjoining the parklands. The expansive, sculpted roof with a dynamic uplit sunscreen contributes to both the casual beach culture and lively Broadbeach street atmosphere.
