Burleigh Heads Library has a prime location opposite the beach at Burleigh Heads. It's a favourite of both locals and visitors, and has a large children's area that's regularly packed with young families. The library is the third oldest in the city, opened by Gold Coast Council Mayor Ern Harley in 1967. It was upgraded in 1979, 1991 and 2024. Above the library is the City's Fradgley Hall events space.
Join us to explore the recent transformation of Burleigh Heads Library as part of Gold Coast Open House weekend. Following its refurbishment, it’s the first of our libraries to organise its resources by genre or subject, helping showcase what’s on offer and enabling customers browse and find items more easily.
In recent years, libraries have been evolving to embrace new technologies, entertainment streaming, working from home and the changing needs of older customers.
Library design consultant Kevin Hennah lead informative talk on the design trends in libraries, and how design is helping libraries maintain relevance, showcasing some innovative library designs and discussing the considerations and changes that went into the refurbishment of the library.
Gold Coast Open House proudly acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our events are held, the Kombumerri and Yugambeh Language Group families of the Gold Coast. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connections to the lands, waters, wildlife and extended communities throughout South East Queensland.
