Join Dr Rosemary Kennedy, Director of Subtropical Cities Consultancy, on a walking tour of iconic apartment towers in Surfers Paradise.

Tall apartment buildings have been part of the Gold Coast’s identity since the early 1960’s. The ten buildings featured in this tour are all notable landmarks to this day.

Most were originally designed for short stay holiday accommodation and the focus was very much on views. Understandably, they were influenced by the mid-century modernist style popular in American sunbelt resorts like Palm Springs, California and Miami, Florida.

Now, as the Gold Coast matures, these earlier towers from the 1960s and 1970s are being recognised for their liveability by permanent residents.

Key information:

  • Approximate duration 90 minutes with a coffee break midway
