Gold Coast Hockey Centre
The Gold Coast Hockey Centre had a $14.5M makeover for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Located within the larger sporting precinct of Keith Hunt Park, it has delivered an important legacy beyond GC 2018. In conceptualising the design, MODE aimed to deliver modern, relevant facilities that meet international sporting standards but remain accessible to the community.
Upgrades were made throughout the interior and two hockey pitches were realigned and resurfaced. A wrap around terrace integrates the original clubhouse with the new facilities. The redesign features permanent seating for 200 people, which was boosted to 5000 during GC 2018.
Iconic gold fascia screens along the lengths of the building on both sides give the complex its strong identity.
The kids can test their hockey skills on the same synthetic turf where Kookaburras Aaron Kleinschmidt and Matt Dawson landed goals that won the Aussies gold in the finals at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018. They may be asked to remove their shoes.
