Take a break and relax in the scenic landscape of Federation Walk. Situated on The Spit, this dynamic ecosystem provides a wonderful opportunity to get up close with the area's plant and bird life.
Federation Walk was initiated in 1998 by the Main Beach Progress Association through a Centenary of Federation Queensland Grant, to create a Master Plan to guide the use of this area of 91ha on the eastern side of Seaworld Drive, The Spit. Since the Official Opening in 2001 there has been monthly planting days supported strongly by the community.
The Project has Local, State and Federal Government support as well as many commercial and educational entities. The Federation Walk Coastal Reserve as it is now known, has had over seven deliberately lit fires over the years which destroyed many of these plantings but the community has always rallied to replant these devastated areas. Federation Walk is the largest remaining area of coastal vegetation on the Gold Coast mainland, is protected by State and Local Government environmental criteria, is included in the City Plan as a Conservation area owing to both flora and fauna, and is home to over 80 known species of birds.
